Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Sanford District Curriculum
In Math, by the end of elementary school, students should be able to measure, interpret data, analyze shapes, use fractions, and understand decimals. In middle school, students learn about integers, rational number, equations, inequalities, linear relationships, data, probability, and geometry. High school students may choose from the following math classes in algebra, geometry, math for college readiness, analysis of functions, and pre-calculus.
In Language Arts, elementary students learn to ask questions while reading, to write, and to express thoughts through writing and speaking. In middle school, students learn to construct meaning from text, use digital information, use the writing process, listen to speakers, speak in front of others, build their vocabulary, and conduct research. High school students should be able to analyze, create, and evaluate spoken and written forms of communication.
