Santa Maria District and Curriculum

Santa Maria schools use a curricular model that sets clear standards for learning which are used as the basis for planning instruction and the basis for assessments that students take. The Common Core Standards are used for the subjects of English/Language Arts and Math; the curriculum describes the broad areas of learning and then details the skills and knowledge integral to these areas.

We currently cover the following Santa Maria-area school district: Santa Maria-Bonita School District, Santa Maria Joint Union High School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Santa Maria District Curriculum

In Math, students are instructed in numerical operations, algebraic operations, geometry and measurement, and statistics and probability. In English/Language Arts, the subject is organized around reading literary and informational texts, writing and revising processes, listening, and speaking. These areas helps to develop critical thinking, interpretative and analytic skills in students.

Academic subjects and specialized programs also have curriculum that explain what it is that students will come to know and be able to do during and upon completion of their coursework.
