Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Santee District Curriculum

The curriculum for Math and Science teaches students how to look at the world as problem-solvers. Students are taught ways to test their hypotheses and draw conclusions. They learn how to perform computation, choose instruments to collect and measure data, and methods of data analysis. Through this, the skills necessary for any field of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math is approachable for students.

The Language Arts curriculum lays out the literacy and communication strategies to be taught. Students develop a solid base of reading skills and must write for a range of purposes.  A trend in the schools is towards the creation of small school models which focus on specific subjects. In these programs, students do the work of all core academic subjects with additional focus subjects integrated into teaching and learning.
