Chalk Talk: Integrating Technology into the Curriculum

To promote 21st century skills necessary for college and the workplace, school districts are increasing the use of technology to promote learning. In lieu of textbooks and traditional tools such as calculators and paper and pencil, classrooms are instead using Web 2.0 tools and tablets in their digital curriculum. Prior Lake-Savage has implemented a 1:1 (student to computing device) starting at 8th grade. Students have access to on demand learning, regardless of their location. The district’s Volume Purchasing Program allows districts to upload apps aligned to the curriculum and the students’ education. Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools hope to enhance and accelerate learning as well as leverage technology for individualized instruction and student engagement. Many teachers also have their own class pages, which is where students can find assignments and other relevant class information to help them succeed.
