Chalk Talk: The Importance of Physical Activity for Academic Success

Many studies show that physical activity is vital for success in the classroom. This does not mean that students need to be constantly moving while they are in school, but that they do need time to move throughout the day. Elementary school students do need to run around and play during recess time. Preschool students need to move continually throughout the day. Even middle school students and high school students, who do not normally have recess, need to be able to move. Even teachers need to have time to get up and move around the room. Students who participate in after school sports consistently perform with more success in the classroom than students who do not have any activity throughout their day.
