Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Selma District Curriculum

The curriculum in Language Arts serves to instill critical, interpretative, and analytic thinking through communication skills. Reading and writing across the subject span are the main focus, but students are also asked to give oral presentations and to use critical thought during listening exercises. The framework for Math is designed to instill the problem-solving and reasoning skills which emerge from mathematic problem-solving. Through lessons in numerical and algebraic operations, measurement and geometry, probability and statistics and advancing into areas like Calculus or Discrete Math, students have the skills to solve 21st century learning challenges.

Technology is infused in all subjects. Students are able to create, transform and innovate ideas using technology within all their classes. The foundation of communication skills and mathematic operations provides the basis to do all these things which demonstrate the real proficiency that students gain.
