Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Senatobia District Curriculum

The Language Arts program begins to help children become readers by reading books to the students and then seeing if they can re-tell details. This skill allows them to progress through book reports, reading for knowledge and presentations. Then when these same students reach high school they are able to use the skills they developed to not only research a topic, but also to present arguments with evidence to back up their arguments and ideas.

Senatobia Municipal Schools have children begin their mathematics education by acting out equations before they are expected to work them on paper. This allows the student to visual mathematics problems, and then as they become older this will be second nature to them as they progress to multi-state equations or even algebraic ones. Whether a student that graduates from Senatobia schools sees themselves as a mathematician, they will have the problem-solving skills of one to help them reach their potential in the world.

Chalk Talk: How to Study With a Study Partner

There are times in a student’s life when working on or reviewing homework with a classmate is beneficial. Some of the times, though, it is easy to become distracted from their work at hand. Some help in keeping on track are needed in these cases. Make a contract with the partner that both of you are to keep the other on-track. Also, use the study partner’s knowledge to help get past a stumbling block. At times, one person will be more knowledgeable than another in certain subject areas. Lastly, remember that another set of eyes can often help when working on a project. They can tell if something is missing or if something else can be done to make it better. Study partners can be beneficial as long as both parties remember the purpose of being together.
