Chalk Talk: The Importance of Digital Literacy

K-12 students are being inundated with media messages from television, social media and the Internet in general. Parents and teachers are encouraged to discuss the importance of being media literate with their child and develop an understanding of some of the contradictory messages children witness every day. This will go a long way in developing critical evaluation skills so that children are able to recognize and understand what are good online resources. While public schools might mention the issue in workshops, parents can be proactive in educating their children about digital technology.
