Chalk Talk: Kindergarten Readiness

Every parent looks at their four year old child knowing that in just one more year, their child will embark upon one of the biggest journeys in their lifetimes, heading off to school. But how do you know if your child is ready? While your child’s new teacher will open up a new world of learning, there are a few things they should have under their belt before they sit down on the first day of school. First, are they emotionally ready for the separation? Do they know how to wait their turn, share, and follow verbal directions? Also, have they expressed an interest in letters, stories and music? Can they hold a pencil or crayon and have the ability to concentrate for 15 minutes at a time? If you answer yes to most of these, then your little one is most likely ready to begin kindergarten and an exciting new time in their life.
