Chalk Talk: The Importance of Curriculum Mapping
The importance of curriculum mapping lays in the way that electronic databases are used together with a review of every curriculum to create what is essentially a road map to subject area teachng. The key components of the curriculum, contents, skills, and assessments, are displayed in map. Mapping allows educators and administrators to see the big picture and revise content instruction. It can also be used to see areas well-suited for integration and allow teachers to collaborate in their planning. The map is used to plan all the curricular targets that teachers will meet, and serve as a visual guideline to the plan for the year. It helps to see the progression of skills and knowledge that students will gain and can help teachers plan lessons that incorporate past lessons and emphasize knowledge critical to future learning.
