Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Sitka District Curriculum

Science education is inquiry-based. From the early grades through high school, students are involved in developing questions and using scientific methods to find answers. For example, third graders learn about the salmon life cycle by visiting a local hatchery and examining water samples to find the macro invertebrates that salmon eat.

The Sitka elementary schools place special emphasis on early reading to help all children become proficient readers who appreciate books. Middle school Language Arts students hone their nonfiction and creative writings, learn to debate, and create a monthly school newspaper. Through such activities, the goals of literacy and communication development are brought about.

Contact our Academic Directors Today at 1-877-545-7737 to Discuss your Child's Strengths and Areas for Improvement.

SchoolTutoring Academy’s tutoring programs for Sitka students start with a free academic assessment with an Academic Director. Sitka District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Sitka School District curriculum is aligned to Alaska’s State Content and Performance Standards and Grade Level Expectations (GLEs). These provide the goals for education and teachers are able to use instructional approaches that work well with their students. Math content and skills are taught in a way that encourages students to become strategic problem solvers. Class work is designed to help students learn to apply mathematical reasoning in real-life situations.

We currently cover the following Sitka-area school district: Sitka School District.
