Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Solvang District Curriculum

The Math curriculum organizes its subject matter into numbers and quantities, data analysis, algebraic operations, and geometric functions as the major skills students develop through eighth grade. As students move into high school, these topics become more advanced and students are able to take trigonometry and pre-calculus. This competition challenges students to design an innovative business plan and go up against students around the state also seeking the judges stamp of approval on their plans.
  • Advanced Technology Learning - Students in the EAST Program at Santa Ynez Valley Union High School are mastering technologies such as laser scanning and 3-D digital modeling of structures. Project mapping software is being used by educators and students to plan for different ways of bringing knowledge, experiences, and places to life for other members of the school community.
  • District Plans and Strategic Goals - The Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District provides the strategic plans for district initiatives, goals, and accountability measures. There are plans specified for specific student populations, those that respond to the economic situation, and others that measure the progress in student achievement. These are intended for all members of the community, and for parents who are interested in specific issues in education there are opportunities to seek out advisory councils that provide input into these goals.
