Chalk Talk: Early Action

Early Action (EA) is an early, nonbinding application type offered by many colleges. Deadlines tend to be in November, with decisions given before the end of the calendar year. EA are nonbinding, which means that students are free to apply elsewhere or to attend college elsewhere. They are early, and because of this, students compete with fewer other applicants. Colleges tend to lump EA applications in with Early Decision, giving them higher acceptance rates, so students who apply EA reap many benefits without suffering the possible downside of Early Decision, namely being locked in to attending that one college. But EA applications don’t have quite as high acceptance rates as Early Decision.
