Chalk Talk: How to Prepare Your Child for College
There definitely are some important steps that you must take to prepare your child for college. Do not wait until the senior high school year to start preparing him. The first thing you need to do is to be involved in your child’s school life and stay in the know about school issues. Schools usually plan events where speakers talk about preparing for college. Be sure that you go to these events and take notes. Help your child by setting some academic goal for home, like reading one book a week and preparing for tests for at least 30 minutes per night. By setting goals for your child you are teaching the study skills that will be needed in college. Stay in contact with your child’s teacher and get to know the school counselor. These people are there to help you as well as your child, so take advantage of their expertise.
