Springfield Charter Township District and Curriculum

The districts that local students attend all follow the Michigan Merit Curriculum which covers both core and elective subjects. It provides a continuous, coherent learning path for students in each subject based on the major topics and how best to develop students knowledge and skills in each topic. The schools also offer specialized learning options that can support students interests and give them rigorous preparation for college and career. The Algebra II in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology (EMIT) program is one such opportunity for students who would benefit from understanding the real world application of complex math.

We currently cover the following Springfield Charter Township-area school districts: Brandon School District, Clarkston Community Schools, and Holly Area Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Springfield Charter Township District Curriculum

The elementary English language arts curriculum supports the goals of the Early Literacy Initiative. Reading of both fiction and non-fiction is emphasized and students respond to questions that help them analyze these texts. The writing curriculum focuses on sentences, paragraphs, grammar, and vocabulary. During middle school, students learn essay-writing techniques which they will then apply when writing longer reports and essays in high school. The reading curriculum also prepares students to be able to find and evaluate reliable resources when conducting their own research.

Students learn about number systems and equations through the elementary and secondary mathematics curriculum. They begin by learning how to assign numbers to objects in a set. They then are able to learn about equations by manipulating these sets to represent addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. By using these tools, students learn the basis of all further mathematics, such as geometry, trigonometry or calculus.

Chalk Talk: Helping A College Student With Homesickness

Whether it is the first day or the first month, students who are new to college life may miss their own room, bathroom or their parents or pets. Help the young adult to realize that these are perfectly normal feelings and it is normal to have these feelings expectantly throughout their college life. Encourage them to find a physical activity which helps them to meet others while working of stress and negative feelings. They may find an intramural league or perhaps a yoga group to get involved with. Parents can also help by sending care packages to the student which include comfort items from home. If the student has persistent homesickness, encourage them to go to the Resident Assistant or the counseling center immediately.
