Educating Our Parents: Understanding the St. Francis District Curriculum
Middle school social studies students in St. Francis learn about various events that led to immigration to the state as well as the consequences of that immigration. Learners explore events around the world after World War II that led people to immigrate to the United States. Particularly in Minnesota, students examine the various groups that came to the state in large numbers. Students identify the push-pull factors that drew the Hispanic, Asian, and East African immigrants to the area. These reasons are also contrasted with the reasons for immigration among earlier groups, such as western Europeans.
The high school science curriculum in St. Francis includes an examination of matter. Students learn about the various aspects of an atom including protons, neutrons, and electrons. Valence electrons re analyzed in terms of their role in the formation of chemical bonds. Various scientists that helped devise an understanding of the atom are studied as well, including Dalton, Thompson, Chadwick, and Bohr. The arrangement of elements on the Periodic Table is also examined. Learners develop an understanding of the ordering system in the table, including the relationship of elements to other elements in their row and column.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Top Things Teachers Need From Parents
Success for children in school depends on many factors, not the least of which are their teachers and parents. There are many ways though for parents to stay involved, and the involvement does need to work for the parents schedule. But, in order to help teachers have the greatest impact, parents need to be involved in the educational process. Parents should take time each day to read to their children. The books you choose don’t have to be of any particular type or genre, so long as reading is taking place. Also, parents should get to know their child’s teacher. Attending parent-teacher conferences, open houses, and communicating regularly will help build that relationship. Getting involved in school events, the PTA, and other activities also goes a long way to helping your child’s teacher help your child find success. Also, giving children positive messages about their education goes a long way.
