Educating Our Parents: Understanding the St. Gabriel District Curriculum
The Iberville Parish School System has implemented the state approved Common Core Curriculum in all district schools. The curriculum is focused on ensuring that students across the state have access to the same quality educational material and that students develop the skills they will need to be successful in the work force and in higher education. The primary focus of Common Core is in English and Language Arts and Mathematics.
To encourage English literacy the academic requirements for fluency in English has been applied across all standard courses including technology, Social Studies, and Science courses. In Mathematics, the goal is for all students to be math literate by the time they graduate high school with a strong understanding of core math applications including computational skills, algebra, geometry, statistics, measurement and proportional reasoning. Students are expected to know how and when to apply math skills to solve problems both in the classroom and in real life situations.
