Chalk Talk: Great Reasons to Take AP Classes

Many high schools offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses in order to provide students more challenging learning experiences. AP courses involve college-level studies, and as a result, help students build the academic skills they will need to be successful in their post-secondary endeavors. Students participate in activities that promote the development of critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as research skills. Because of this, college admissions officers look upon AP courses favorably, particularly if a student is successful in their AP courses and earns high scores on their AP exams. Because of the early exposure to college-level work, students may be able to decide on a major sooner. This helps in planning college schedules and can result in students graduating with their degree in a more timely fashion. AP courses provide financial benefits as well. Because high scores on AP exams are often accepted by colleges and universities for credit, students can save a significant amount of money.
