St Marys District and Curriculum
The St. Marys Area School District follows the curriculum standards set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and has programs under development in reading/English/Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and the electives offered. Students learn in a spiral curriculum that progresses by grade levels. The elementary schools, in particular, have achieved great progress in helping students attain appropriate grade levels in Reading and Math.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the St Marys District Curriculum
The core curriculum helps students develop a knowledge base that will prepare them thoroughly for college and career. Each course of study helps students increase their analytic capabilities, problem-solving know-how, and ability to conduct independent research. Students are encouraged to think creatively while also learning all the traditional means of expressing their ideas. Another major goal of the curriculum is that students have the chance to make connections between subject areas and to the real world.
There are programs for students with all range of interests, from the Arts to Technology. Many high school students opt for dual enrollment in college classes while attending high school. This special program allows students to get college and high school credit at the same time, and is offered to high school juniors and seniors in Pennsylvania schools. It provides students an opportunity to attend classes and jump start their college career.

- Area Graduates Practice Medicine at Home - Practicing medicine in their home town is a way two local graduates of St Marys area high schools are giving back to their community. In addition, they often encourage students in math and science programs to focus on what they are interested and use high school for a training ground to prepare for higher education. A firm foundation in high school is the beginning for future studies and preparation.
- Cheerleaders Host Competition - One of the St Marys Area high schools cheerleading team hosted a competition for area high schools in the winter. The competition has been held for nine years. It is very popular with students as well as the audience.
- Homecoming Celebrations at Bowl Game - The Homecoming Queen for St Marys Area High School was invited to join a bowl game during the New Year's Eve ceremonies. She was one of many high school royalty who presided over college team play. It was an honor that she will not soon forget.
