Chalk Talk: Should You Write a Resume?
Not every college requires a resume, and some don’t even recommend them, but almost every college will accept one, so it’s probably a good idea to write one, especially when you consider what a resume does for you. A resume provides an easy-to-read, one-page document that highlights not only an applicant’s extracurricular involvement, but also various positive qualities associated with these activities. Many of these qualities might not be addressed elsewhere, and they are all good and worth addressing. For example, involvement in a sport shows dedication and teamwork, and if the student was involved for more than one season, or became a team captain, or won an award, that shows even more positive qualities. Similarly, being involved with a club shows many essential qualities. Of course, highlighting stronger qualities makes a stronger resume, and highlighting activities that demonstrate multiple positive qualities will accomplish this.
