Chalk Talk: Tips for a Better College Essay
Not all students who choose to attend college will be required to write an essay. But those who must undertake that process can find it to be a bit overwhelming. If your child is struggling to write their college essay, there are several tips you can provide to help them along. First, remind them to be concise. Admissions officers have hundreds of essays to read each year and will appreciate a student that fulfills the requirements of the essay without being longwinded about it. Second, your child should convey their likability. By telling a vivid story they make themselves much more real and become more than just a name on a piece of paper. Lastly, your child needs to be accurate in their writing. This goes beyond simply using spellcheck. Their essay should be structurally sound through and through.
