Chalk Talk: Paying for College on a Tight Budget
As the cost of college tuition continues to rise, many families are seeking ways to pay for their child’s education. Fortunately, there are a number of alternatives that can bring the cost of college down to a more affordable level. Attending community college the first two years of school can save families thousands of dollars, as tuition and fees are far less expensive at a two-year school than they are at a four-year school. Another viable option is for students to take as many Advanced Placement courses in high school as possible. With a sufficient score on the AP exam, students can earn college credit while still in high school. Many high schools also offer dual credit courses, in which students receive credit for classes taken in high school through a local college or university. Each of these methods will save families money and allow students to start their college education with credits already completed.
