Chalk Talk: Aiding the Low-Achiever
Some teen-agers find many aspects of school difficult. No matter why, parents want to help these teens. One way to help is to pay attention to the teen. During this difficult age, they need as much attention, if not more than those children that are younger. When teenagers are not living up to expectations as you might hope, talk with them calmly and reassuringly so you can get to the root of the problem and begin working on solutions. Also, focus on the strengths of the child and look for areas where they can shine. Additionally, stay in touch with the teachers to see if they have noticed any changes or to stay on top of the assignments. Remember that, no matter why the student struggles, the expectations for their work should remain with the teen. Finally, celebrate their successes and achievements. With these suggestions, parents can help their teen gain more and more success in school and in life.
