Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Sunland Park District Curriculum
The Gadsden Independent School District provides a strong academic curriculum based on the recently adopted Common Core State Standards. These standards are focused on English and Language Arts and Mathematics and help ensure that no matter which public school a child is attending in New Mexico that the academic expectations will be the same. The district employs a balanced literacy approach due to the number of students for which English is a second language.
The complexity level of the reading material and writing composition is progressive with students building on the skills they have learned the previous year. Literacy standards are applied to all academic coursework including technology courses. In Mathematics, students focus on learning a finite number of topics including computation, measurement, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability. The goal is to for students to develop a core mastery of skills which they can apply to real problems.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!

Chalk Talk: Smithsonian American Art Museum
If you have a child that loves to tinker with things mechanical then take them to the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC to see the Inventing a Better Mousetrap Exhibition. If that is not possible you can still visit the exhibit online at the museum website. The exhibit features some of the items that are on display of early patented inventions. You can see inventions such as an early washing machine, toy wrestlers, one of the first prototypes for an artificial leg, horseshoe making machine, and an electromagnetic railroad signal. There are also mystery models where you get to guess what the invention was supposed to do. The site does give you a few clues to help with the guessing game.
