Chalk Talk: Resources for Budding Astronomers

Most school districts require students to complete at least one literature course in order to graduate. Schools do this because they recognize the importance that literature has on the educational journey of students. A literature course exposes students to other times and other cultures. Major historic, political, religious, and cultural issues are addressed in the literary classics that grace most classrooms. When a student is exposed to these issues and asked to think critically on key topics, he is broadening his worldview. A student who is well-versed in literature will be a successful thinker and a better communicator. A student who is well-versed in literature will be able to form his own opinions on a topic and is not as easy swayed by group mentality. Literature courses are also standard in college, so a student who is well-versed in literature from high school, comes to the college table with a distinct advantage.
