Swissvale District and Curriculum
Woodland Hills School District seeks to provide a positive learning experience where students are able to be challenged. The district strives to provide a safe environment for all students where they not only learn what is required, but are able to imagine and dream. Students of all ages enjoy an environment where the focus is them and their learning. Blended learning is utilized to assist students and help them to integrate learning and technology at the pace of the student instead of relying 100% on the pace of the class.
We currently cover the following Swissvale-area school district: Woodland Hills School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Swissvale District Curriculum
Students in the Woodland Hills School District receive an education that correlates with the requirements laid out by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. They work both in traditional classroom settings as well as in small groups on classroom projects, and use various technologies to experience and learn in a variety of ways that accommodate the learning style of each student.
The Language Arts program moves students through different genres of text such as fiction, poetry, historical fiction, and non-fiction. While students will learn to read these texts fluently, they will also be able to analyze what they have read for meaning. Students also participate in weekly technology classes in order to prepare them with the skills necessary for the 21st Century. Students are given a good understanding of Core subjects as well as introduced to many other subjects including sciences, social studies, and the arts.

Chalk Talk: How You Can Help Your Child with Homework
Elementary school is full of fun, excitement, adventures, discoveries and…homework. Helping your child be successful with homework can make a huge difference in their success at school. To help your child, provide a dedicated time and place to do homework. If possible, make sure it is a time when you can be available for questions, redirection, or concerns your child may have. Make sure it is also at a time when your child can focus without being too hungry or too tired. Have your child keep a list of homework due. Many teachers in elementary school have an assignment book or method of keeping track of homework. Make sure to review this daily and ask your child for any notes that may have been sent home for you. Make homework fun, always remembering to acknowledge quality work or time spent and encouraging your child in the skills they can do well. Help your child when they have questions and teach them to look for answers with resources they have available to them such as teachers, the school library, or safe internet research.
