Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Sylvania District Curriculum
The Sylvania mathematics curriculum provides learning opportunities for students to acquire mathematical skills necessary for day-to-day functioning. Young learners acquire the practical skills needed to estimate taxes and tips, while becoming familiar with the tools available to them for solving mathematical problems. Students in the middle grades work on creating simple budgets, learning to allocate scarce resources to address the most immediate financial needs.
Students in Sylvania participate in a comprehensive physical education curriculum that promotes physical and mental health. In physical education class, students acquire the necessary fine and gross motor skills to be able to participate in physical activities in a safe manner. Children learn how to prepare their bodies for work, as well as how to cool down after a workout. The health and wellness component of the curriculum focuses on making healthy decisions with regard to nutrition and staying physically active.
