Those subject areas along with world languages, technology, and business education carry through middle and high school and allow students to take on more advanced work.

In Science, students learn the process of scientific investigation and about core topics as well as technology, engineering, and environmental science. At the high school level, students dive deeper into scientific inquiry, studying physics, chemistry, and biology. Study of energy, waves, and matter are undertaken. Chalk Talk: Common Core

With the implementation of Common Core, many feel that teachers are now being told what to teach at each grade level in English Language Arts and mathematics. The major goal of each framework is to organize learning along key topics and provide an increasingly deep learning experience to students each year. Proponents and supporters of Common Core feel that is simply not the case. Core supporters state that the standards help to establish what students need to learn, but do not dictate or tell teachers how to teacher and allow teachers the flexibility to determine the best instructional method to deliver the objectives. Teachers are left to decide how to best help their students reach the standards and benchmarks. Common Core does provide teachers with consistent goals and expectations for their students, and it does provide the opportunity to collaborate with teachers across the country.
