Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Taylor District Curriculum
The curriculum in the Taylor School District is based on Michigan’s Core Curriculum and State Standards. For elementary students, this means they study basic concepts like phonics and learn comprehension skills at the same time. Students learn more advanced skills and dig for deeper meaning in texts as they grow. Math instruction uses hands-on experiences to teach concepts. Students are also taught critical thinking and problem solving skills.
At the high school level, students are challenged with coursework designed to get them ready for college and careers. Four years of English and Language Arts instruction is required as well as both algebra and geometry. Students may also enroll in Advanced Placement courses in order to earn college credit and Taylor Schools also offer a JROTC program for students who qualify.
