Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Taylorsville District Curriculum

The Common Core’s goals are to produce students who are capable of thinking critically and evaluatively, and who have necessary skills in English and Math, suitable for 21st century careers and college degrees. To meet these goals, at the elementary level the district uses a curriculum that integrates inquiry skills, decoding strategies and offers connections between the subjects of Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science. This helps students prepare for more independent and analytic work at the high school level.

Dual-enrollment programs in Chinese are available for students interested in pursuing serious language learning. All elementary schools in the district include technology in their programs, giving students access to computers, iPads, and other tools to support their education. Within the curriculum’s goals, the ability for students to make meaningful connections across the curriculum is emphasized.
