Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Temple District Curriculum
The social studies curriculum begins with showing students the routines that are needed to run a classroom. They then extend this to include schools, as they look at the school as a small community. These ideas are able to be used throughout their social studies education as students learn to look at not only the school as a community but families, neighborhoods, cities, states, and countries as communities as well.
The reading curriculum at Temple Schools begins with the students learning how to share their thoughts about books that are introduced to them at reading time. Soon they begin to learn how there is a purpose behind what the authors write and they discover different strategies to help them when they are puzzled by a word or meaning of a group of words. As they become older they learn that there are different types of books such as fiction, expository books, and procedural books. Plus, they learn how to make connections during a literary discussion.

- Music Programs - The musically inclined students of Temple schools have choices when it comes to learning, or improving, their skills. Temple High School offers concert band, Cadet Band, Highlighters, Temple Blues, chamber ensembles and color guard. Each of these groups perform in different functions and competitions throughout the state.
- Theatre Program - The theatre program at Temple school include opportunities to learn about acting, Children's Theater, drama, production and stagecraft. They do present productions where students can hone their skills. Productions include both dramatic pieces as well as musicals.
- Dance Troupe - The Temple High School Kittens have successfully competed in state and national competitions as they also participate in football games, pep rallies and community service projects. Students who take part in this group have their confidence built while they master techniques and improve physically.

Another activity to help build reading skills is to schedule a regular family-time at the library. With these activities, a child will develop a healthy alternative to the distractions in this world.
