The Village District and Curriculum

The Village City Schools follows the curriculum developed by the Oklahoma State Education Department in all coursework. The school system focuses on the core curriculum of English Language Arts and Mathematics, teaching these courses on many levels and integrating them with courses such as history, science and technology, and the arts.

We currently cover the following The Village-area school district: Oklahoma City Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding The Village District Curriculum

In Mathematics, objectives mastered include the relationships between decimals and fractions. This is taught in the middle elementary grades, and the students are responsible for learning how to put fractions and decimals in order from greatest to least, and least to greatest. With fractions and decimals, the students use base ten blocks to discover the relationship of the model to the actual fraction, and then the equal decimal. Converting from fractions to decimals by using base ten blocks and with written calculations is also taught.

In English Language Arts, the children experience visual literacy. Visual literacy is an objective in this school system, and is comprised by experiencing events that provide pleasure with comprehending and composing. Visual language statements, such as statements that are concrete and abstract, relates to what is being seen and experienced. The students experience many situations throughout the year, such as field trips and creative activities in the classroom.

Chalk Talk: What Is a Charter School?

A Charter School is a public school within any given school system, but is unique in the following ways: they are more innovative in subject areas being taught and have more flexibility in the school day (such as the hours in the instructional day), they give students and parents the choice of where to be educated, and they have varying philosophies as compared to traditional public schools. The Charter School is a public school with public funding, but also private as well. They have the same accountability via test scores and achievement (graduation rates and grades) as the public schools. Charter Schools sometimes focus on a specific area of study (in addition to the other subjects), and are known to have unique, more individualized educational practices. In many areas, Charter Schools give parents and students another option to achieve a high level of education that is tuition-free and open to all students.
