Tooele District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The Utah Core Standards are the basis of the curriculum in Tooele County Schools. They are based on the Common Core State Standards, which are a national effort to ensure that students are college and career ready by the time they graduate from high school, and have been implemented in many states. The Utah Core Standards in English and Mathematics require that students learn problem-solving and analytic skills, whether they are working with words or numbers, and that they learn through exposure to new mathematical problems and new texts.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Tooele District Curriculum
The Science curriculum in the Tooele County School District is based on the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Benchmarks for Science Literacy, which is a set of achievable goals for all students that establish what students should know at various grades in order to grow into fully science-literate adults. They include basic information about the various fields of science that students should know, as well as information about the scientific process, the history of scientific knowledge, and how research is conducted.
Science is integrated into the elementary school curriculum, and junior high school students take integrated science courses that cover core topics in earth science, life science, and physical science. Students in high school take at least three years of science courses, including two in the core fields of earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics, and either another core science or courses in astronomy, zoology, medical anatomy and physiology, or other applied science courses.

Chalk Talk: Science Education For Life
Science education isn’t only for those who will go into scientific fields. There are plenty of career goals where having a basic knowledge of science is very helpful: scientific and technical firms require the services of writers, lawyers, advertising staff, and people in a variety of fields who need to be conversant in scientific language and concepts. More than that, it’s important for adults to understand science and technology in order to understand the world: scientific advancements change the nature of our world, and you need to understand basic scientific concepts in order to make decisions about your thoughts on science policy, medical decisions, and technical systems.
