Trent Hills District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The local schools use the Ontario Curriculum as the framework for the instructional process. The curriculum combines the establishment of clear objectives for learning, a plan for the organized delivery of knowledge each year, and assessments which can measure student achievement and proficiency with their subjects. Each subject has an individual framework which specifies the grade-level expectations for student learning, and assessments given across the province are aligned to these standards.
We currently cover the following Trent Hills-area school districts: Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Trent Hills District Curriculum
In Math, the goal is to develop numeracy, algebraic, geometric and proportional abilities for students. Mathematic literacy and the ability to determine the best computational tools and methods to solve a problem are higher-order goals of the curriculum. In Science, the expectations center on the ability to use scientific processes to investigate phenomenon and the development of a strong base of Science knowledge. In English, students are expected to gain literacy and communication abilities that they can apply to all subjects and learning goals.
In each traditional subject, current topics like Media and Technology are infused both as subjects which students can learn about and as assistive technologies that can support learning. The curriculum allows for expansion into current topics as the goal is to have students thoroughly prepared at the time of graduation to pursue advanced academics or enter the workforce.

The smaller learning environment focused upon these curricular fundamentals has shown to prepare students well for the demands of pre-high school math.
- Character Development - The schools do not offer any one course in Character Development, rather it is a set of ideas infused into learning and the efforts of the broader school community. Chalk Talk: How Are Assessments Used to Drive Instruction?
Data-driven instruction is a commonly used phrase amongst educators and administrators. What this means is that they are closely analyzing
assessments of proficiency and achievement within each subject to determine what the instructional goals and priorities need to be.
Assessments are created to measure specific achievement with the standards of the curriculum or within broader abilities like project and
time management. With the information from each students' assessments a teacher can see where they excel and where they require more instruction.
Similarly, a whole grade level's results on assessments will paint the picture of what instructional priorities will be needed.
