Trophy Club District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Northwest Independent School District curriculum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills which provides comprehensive frameworks for each subject. The TEKS has rigorous standards for learning in each subject which call upon elementary students to master the fundamentals, middle school students to be introduced to more complex topics, and for high school students to make use of their foundation to determine their pathway and engage in a rigorous course of study. Other areas such as character development and community participation are also introduced.

We currently cover the following Trophy Club-area school district: Northwest Independent School District.

The math curriculum scaffolds student learning so that they are introduced to a variety of mathematical topics and approaches to problem solving. They learn about number systems and how to identify a number, its opposite, and its absolute value. They are also introduced to expressions, equations, and relationships and learn how to write an equation that represents a relationship.

Chalk Talk: The Benefits of Literature

Literature can be the jumping off place for all the areas of a child’s life. It is a wonderful way to relax from everyday stresses. While relaxing it also allows the reader to use imagination to place himself in the book. Also as a child reads, they are building their skills and their horizons. They can find new places to visit, or things to explore. When faced with a problem, some readers are able to use books to help them find the solutions they need. Then when a parent discusses the reading with the child, the child can build thinking skills. They can learn about cause and effect, how to express their thoughts and the reactions their ideas may bring. It will also be used through every aspect of the child’s life, both in school and away from school.
