Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Tuskegee District Curriculum

Macon County Schools is home to seven schools and approximately 3000 students. The school system has over ninety-percent graduation rate, and this is due to an excellent staff of teachers and administrators. The teachers are highly qualified and meet the instructional needs of the students by using modern teaching practices, remediation and differentiation.

Macon County is a very historical county. The city of Tuskegee is the birthplace of Rosa Park, an icon in our history. In history, particularly in grades three and four, students are taught about where they live and the historical impact of the city and community area. In civics at this age, they are taught about rights, civic duties and responsibilities, and their relationships to their community. They are taught to make connections of their daily lives to the historical lives of those in the history of Alabama.
