Union Township District and Curriculum

The Township of Union Public School system strives to address the varied needs of its diverse population. Its programs address the needs of students, families and the community. Some of the unique and valuable opportunities there include half day pre-kindergarten, full day kindergarten, instrumental music (beginning grade three), technology programming in all schools, special education services, multi-level interscholastic programs, partnerships with local area corporations and businesses, and Project Acceleration, in partnership with Seton Hall University.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Union Township District Curriculum

Union Township Schools follow a language arts curriculum based on the Common Core State Standards. Elementary students begin the basics of learning in five key areas: reading, writing, listening, speaking and language. They begin to learn to express themselves orally and in writing and to understand what they read and what they hear. Students continue to develop their expressive and receptive skills as they become critical readers and reactive writers.

The Mathematics curriculum at Union Township also follows the Common Core State Standards. Students in elementary school develop a foundation in operations in base ten, algebraic thinking, geometry, measurement and fractions and decimals. Middle school students continue to strengthen their mathematical understanding as they learn more advanced operations and concepts. In high school, students use what they have learned to further investigate algebra and geometry and have the opportunity to learn trigonometry and pre-calculus.

Keeping Informed: Recent Union Township Educational News

  • 'Cats' Production Honored - Union High School’s Performing Arts Company performed Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 'Cats' earlier this year as their spring performance. The production received several awards including Outstanding Chorus, Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Orchestra.
  • Red Carpet Event - A red carpet was placed on Hilton Avenue for Union High School students to walk down before their prom. This annual event is sponsored by the Union Township Community Action Organization and is greatly supported by the community.
  • Gettysburg Trip - 140 middle school students from Burnet Middle School and Kawameeh Middle School along with 40 chaperones traveled to Gettysburg, PA for a two-day overnight trip. The students and chaperones saw many historical places including the actual Civil War battlegrounds.
