Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Vacaville District Curriculum

In Science, the content areas of Biology and Life Science, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Physics provide the base of scientific knowledge students are expected to learn and the curriculum focuses on student's ability to investigate and experiment within these fields. Through these experiences, they are prepared for the lab sciences in high school and in-depth classes in Environmental Science, Physics, or Technology.

The layout of the curriculum moves students from their elementary grades toward high school by building abilities and understanding. When students are in high school they are faced with opportunities for learning which call upon them to investigate and solve problems, and communicate their findings. They are prepared to do so by the skills learned each year.

Vacaville District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The schools in Vacaville use a curriculum which has been designed to provide clear goals for learning while also describing the broad concepts and thinking skills that students are expected to develop. The yearly progression intends that students master new abilities each year which they are expected to apply to the next level of subject-learning.

For instance, the Math curriculum pinpoints the skills students will develop in their elementary and middle school grades through increasingly in-depth study of numerical and algebraic operations, measurement, geometry, and analysis of data. The material students learn brings about the problem-solving and reasoning skills needed for the more advanced Math courses in high school.

In Language Arts, students are expected to learn literacy and communication skills that covers all modes of reading, writing, and personal expression. An awareness of the structure of language, grammar, and how to decode meaning are basic skills students develop. They use these in both reading literature and non-fiction, and in their written assignments. Writing is central to the Language Arts curriculum and students are asked to develop the ability to write for many different purposes, and to develop processes for editing and revising their work.

We currently cover the following Vacaville-area school district: Vacaville Unified School District.
