Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Valdosta District Curriculum

The goal of all schools in this district is to have continuous improvement in student’s achievements, skill development and comprehension. The Math and Science subjects challenge students to attain excellence in all principals related to these two areas. These subjects also offer students extensions in popular topics like engineering and technology and allow teachers to integrate subject material so that students understand its relevancy.

The Language Arts Program is devoted to literacy across all content areas. Students learn how to read multiple types of text as well as writing in multiple styles and learning basic research methods for both APA and MLA styles. The high school offers a variety of writing classes from basic writing to journalism. In Math there are classes from the most basic courses to the accelerated math courses for gifted and talented students. This school offers a variety of programs aimed at creating student success throughout all grade levels.

Keeping Informed: Recent Valdosta Educational News

  • Governor's Honors Program - The Governor's Honors Program known as GHP is for gifted and honors students. Nominees are interviewed in January and February and if accepted into the program participate in their selected curriculum and another curriculum of their choice during the days in this four week program and in the evenings attend concerts and seminars. The past participants report that this program is a life changing experience. The program has been running for 50 years and is longest continual running program in the nations.
  • Leadership Conference - Twelve Lowndes County students participated in the TSA Leadership Conference where they participated in leadership training, technical session and informational talks. These students also participated in the Armada boat race and VEX robotics competition. The Lowndes County students made a clean sweep and qualified for the VEX World Tournament in the spring which is held in Anaheim, California.
  • TESOL Award - Lowndes County school teacher receives an award for Teachers of English to Speakers of other Languages Public Service Award. The teachers that nominated her stated that she went far beyond the responsibilities of her job and bettered the entire community. This is certainly high praise from her peers. With such devoted teachers students are sure to be successful.
