Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Valley District Curriculum
The schools in Valley, AL have high expectations for all of their students. Chambers County School District follows the curriculum of the Alabama State Standards. The core curriculum of Reading, Writing, History, Math, and Science is college preparatory with the Alabama learning initiative.
In reading, there are many standards of learning. The standards are listed in strands; they are all a part of a spiraling curriculum, as they are all interconnected. All of them must be mastered in order for the student to be a successful, literate reader. The foundations of reading are presented and established in the beginning years and the primary grades, and the concepts of literacy such as interpretation, analysis, evaluation and effective written communication become more involved as the student progresses throughout the English/Language Arts curriculum.

Keeping Informed: Recent Valley Educational News
- Dance Attendees - Valley High's Key Club members were special guests for the Annual Autumn Dance. They were invited from another area school as members of honor for all of their hard work. Members of the Key Club accomplish community services, such as park clean-up, food drive donations and organization, and much more.
- World Milk Day - World Milk Day was celebrated in September all around the world. The importance of milk was learned about by students at Fairfax School, and they participated in many learning activities, such as lessons and videos. They wrote essays about milk, depicted information in graphs, and made puppets of cows. The principal of the school even dressed up as a cow, and the cafeteria workers dressed up as farmers!
- Fall Day - Fall Day at LaFayette Lanier School was an absolute success. Many volunteers are thanked for all that they did for the children to make it so fun. Fall Day is an annual event at the elementary school, and is a day filled with all things Fall, such as games, activities, food and fun! Valley High sent wonderful students to help out as well!

Chalk Talk: The Importance of School Events
It is wonderful for the students to have a great, fun time outside of the learning environment. Many schools offer free, fun events,
such as festivals for a variety of reasons and seasons, and the PTA or PTO is usually involved in the planning and execution of the events. Parent volunteers help bring them all together, and the students have a blast.
