Chalk Talk: Necessity of Public Speaking Skills
Students of all ages need to be able to speak publicly. While not everyone will be on stage in front of thousands of people, no matter what career path they choose, students will encounter times when they need to speak in front of others. Having good public speaking skills is much more than being able to project one’s voice and make eye contact with audience members. Having good public speaking skills means that a person is relatable to the audience and understands their wants and needs. Likewise, good public speakers are confident and comfortable. This goes for when they are speaking to crowds as well as in one-on-one situations. As a result, public speaking skills are necessary not just for advancing one’s career, but for deepening the quality of interpersonal relationships as well.
