Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Versailles District Curriculum
Woodford County School District proudly teaches its instructors the Kentucky Core Academic Standards, including science, social studies, and health and physical education, Students are expected to begin learning the basics of health education starting in their freshman year, learning about issues such as maintaining mental and emotional health, nutrition, and community awareness of relevant health issues.
The District encourages its students to apply the concepts they have learned about health issues to helping their community. Students mobilize to visit local senior centers and pre-school centers to engage the community in dialogue about the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles regardless of age. Students receive credit for their efforts and often use these activities to list on college applications. I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: College Admissions Preparation
At some point in their high school career, students who wish to attend University after graduation will be faced with what many call a daunting task: preparing your college admissions applications. But doing so doesn’t need to be such a hassle. With some organization and basic knowledge of how the process works, you can ensure that the process flows smoothly. First, start early. This is essential to allowing yourself enough time to research all relevant information, including tuition costs, admission acceptance rates, campus life, and all other factors that require research. Keep a chart where you can write down the different schools’ basic information for easy consultation later on. Next, as you begin the process of filling out the application, have certain documents on hand, including your high school report cards and any information relevant to the form that you might wish to consult. As you work through your applications, keep a list of schools you’ve already applied to, and schools you still want to apply to.
