The Vestavia Hills Schools follow the State of Alabama Standards, which is based on the establishment of clear standards for learning and which is tested through multiple assessments for the students to validate achievement and provide a complete picture of the effectiveness of the instructional process.

The core classes focus on a spiraling curriculum that begin with a solid foundation of learning through the benchmarks. Math skills are instructed by using a curriculum with emphasis on knowledge, aptitude, theory, and confidence. The Language Arts program goals are to have each student become literate in many facets, such as in non-fiction, media, and literature. The core curriculum lays a foundation for thinking and learning that prepare students for college and beyond.
