Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Viroqua District Curriculum

Resource management is a primary topic of study in Viroqua’s science curriculum. High school students analyze various aspects of resource management, including costs, benefits, consequences, and risks concerning administration and oversight of local resources. Using their knowledge of validity, reasoning, and utilizing evidence, students analyze decisions made by local, state, and national organizations concerning resource management. Learners also select an issue in resource management to explore, offering evidence-based solutions to the problem they select.

Elementary learners are introduced to concepts in entrepreneurship as part of Viroqua’s marketing, management, and entrepreneurship curriculum. Students learn the basic concept of entrepreneurship, and gain an understanding that small business creation drives the U.S. economy. Learners study successful entrepreneurs from the past and identify the personal characteristics that made them successful in the business world. Students discuss the role of management in entrepreneurship as well.

Chalk Talk: Why Districts Provide Alternative Educational Options

Offering students online learning options is becoming standard procedure for public school districts. Online programs harness the power of modern technology to help meet the unique needs of students that need an alternative method of getting an education. Whether they are homebound by sickness or simply want the flexibility of doing their studies any time they want, students in online programs can easily and efficiently make up missing credits or acquire additional credits in order to graduate early. Since colleges and universities offer many online learning options, similar programs for high school students prove to be beneficial in that they prepare students for learning in an online environment. Many public schools allow online students to fully participate in on-campus activities as well, so students still get the opportunity to learn and grow in a social environment with their peers.
