Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Wahpeton District Curriculum

The Language Arts curriculum is focused on students' ability to participate in all aspects of the research process. Students are expected to be able to identify, understand, and summarize nonfiction texts in a comprehensive manner. Writing assignments are utilized as a major component of this curriculum for developing students' communication and technical skills. Students should also become comfortable with conducting independent research projects and presenting them to a larger audience.

Research skills developed in the Language Arts curriculum will also be utilized in tandem in the science classroom. The Science curriculum focuses on using the research process as a tool for understanding basic science concepts. Students are provided with interactive projects that teach basic principles of life, earth, and physical science. Students are expected to develop skills such as asking appropriate questions, using valid research tools, and creating dynamic research projects.
