Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Wallington District Curriculum

The curriculum of the Wallington Public Schools is designed to provide each student with a challenging and engaging education that is relevant to living in the modern world. Classroom learning focuses on acquisition of the knowledge and skills students need to be socially, politically and economically active members of society. Real-world learning opportunities reinforce what students learn in the classroom and allow them to make connections between school and life.

As part of the science curriculum, Wallington students study climate and weather. In elementary school, students acquire an understanding of various weather patterns and weather events and their associated measurements such as temperature, wind speed and barometric pressure. The middle school curriculum allows students to examine climate data from various regions around the world to gain an understanding of the climatic variability of our planet. In high school, students explore the relationship between changes in the earth’s axis and corresponding changes in the seasons.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Parental Involvement

Children whose parents are involved in their education – both at home and at school – stand a much better chance of achieving their academic potential. Children who have involved parents perform better on standardized tests, have higher grades, and have better attendance than children whose parents are less involved. They also have improved self-esteem, better time management skills and demonstrate much more self-discipline when it comes to completing schoolwork. Education is a lifelong process built upon the foundation of skills, knowledge and attitudes children develop during their school years.
