Chalk Talk: Why Tutoring Is Important

Tutoring can offer students a fresh perspective into innovative strategies of learning and can help gain meaningful connections between academic concepts and real world connections in practical life. Tutors need to use vital interpersonal skills and strategies tailored to the student's learning style and context using creative means such as flash cards, study cues and practice tests. Sometimes teachers find that they may not have enough time to go over certain concepts because of other material that needs to be covered. Lags in learning and learning curves may vary in some students than in others. However, tutors can help provide inspiration, build confidence and instill a passion for learning in students that they may find they have lost due to frustration of not grasping difficult or complex concepts. Tutors need to be mindful of the student's gifts and abilities. Tutors can help students to understand math and science subjects in a creative way and help strengthen their ability for logic and analytical thinking and reasoning.
