Chalk Talk: How to Choose a Tutor

Selecting a tutor can be a big step in the right direction. Individual tutoring can sometimes give students the extra help they need to pull ahead or salvage falling grades. Parents can help their children pick a great tutor using the following general guidelines: Talk to your child about why you think tutoring is a good idea, and what you hope they can accomplish with the tutor's help. Make sure your child and the tutor are a good fit. Ensure that the tutor has some experience working with clients that are the same age as your child. Set tutoring goals and request a plan of action for learning. Schedule sessions during your child's optimal learning hours and monitor your child's progress to ensure that the established academic milestones are being met.
