Chalk Talk: Helping to Eliminate Bullying
Bullying can have a negative impact on students and schools. Many people would like to have a voice in ending it but are unsure how to start. First of all is to have an open line of communication with your children. By encouraging children to talk parent can be at the front of the battle, regardless of whether their child is the bully or the bullied. Each day open-ended questions need to be asked about their peers and what they do between classes. This will allow the child to see they can also talk about bullying. Parents can also make an impact if they volunteer in the school, even once a week. Then also demonstrate leadership and kindness to children, whether at the school or on errands, or at home. Last watch for objects regularly disappearing, or the child having various physical complaints which enables them to stay home. By watching for these signs and by talking parents can make a difference in bullying in their school.
