Educating Our Parents: Understanding the West Columbia District Curriculum
In English Language Arts, students practice comprehending and critiquing a variety of non-fiction and literature pieces, as well as expressing themselves through writing. They learn to transfer these skills to other content areas, such as social studies and science, and into the real world. In their math classes students learn fewer standards, but with greater focus. They master the concepts to a greater depth creating superior retention.
They also are taught how to write based on the writing process approach. They learn the skills of organizing ideas for their essays, how to outline and then write, followed by editing and revising. Students are also expected to present their work and their presentations are enhanced by the technology available to them. Within this process, research skills are also taught so that students learn how to evaluate and properly reference other materials. These various skills are a big help to students when they are in college.

My son’s math marks in high school have always been weak so I found it very beneficial that his ACT tutor worked on solidifying his fundamentals while prepping for the ACT.
SchoolTutoring Academy gave my daughter the confidence she needed to boost her SAT score Thank you!
SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Visiting Colleges
Visiting colleges is an important part of choosing the right postsecondary institution. It is important to consider several factors such as size, cost, and major when making visits. Take your child to Universities of different sizes; some students flourish in smaller classes, while others thrive at larger institutions. Only visit schools that you can afford, it would be disappointing to fall in love with a school that far exceeds your education budget. Finally, even if your child isn’t sure what he’d like to major in, narrow down options based on interest and ability as you make your visits.
